چکیده

Sea turtle epibionts can provide insights into the hosts' habitat use. However, at present, there is a lack of information on sea epibiont communities in many locations worldwide. Here, we describe 46 hawksbill turtles ( Eretmochelys imbricata ) Persian Gulf. Specifically, sampled 28 from Dayyer-Nakhiloo National Park (DNNP) northern Gulf and 18 Shibderaz beach Strait Hormuz. A total 54 macro, meio, micro-epibiont taxa were identified, including 29 DNNP. The barnacles Chelonibia testudinaria Platylepas hexastylos , as well harpacticoid copepods Rotaliid foraminifers, had highest frequency occurrence found almost all individuals. Harpacticoids most abundant epizoic (19.55 ± 3.9 ind. per 9 cm 2 followed by forams Quinqueloculina spp.: 6.25 1.5 Rotaliids: 6.02 1.3 ). Our results showed significant differences between study sites composition micro macro-epibiont turtles. We speculate that largely influenced local environmental conditions.

mtDNA variation of the critically endangered hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) nesting on Iranian islands of the Persian Gulf.

Genetic diversity of sea turtles (hawksbill turtle) was studied using sequencing of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA, D-loop region). Thirty dead embryos were collected from the Kish and Qeshm Islands in the Persian Gulf. Analysis of sequence variation over 890 bp of the mtDNA control region revealed five haplotypes among 30 individuals. This is the first time that Iranian haplotypes have been recorded...

Selection of nesting habitat of hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) in two coral islands of Qeshm and Hengam in the Persian Gulf, Iran

The Persian Gulf islands are the nesting regions for the severely endangered hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) species. Therefore, the selection of the nesting habitat of this species in the two islands of Qeshm and Hengam was studied by a five-member working group in the spring of 2013 - 2015. Ultimately, 23 and 17 nests were identified in the south of Qeshm Island and in the south and...

A survey of the epibiota of Eretmochelys imbricata (Testudines: Cheloniidae) of Mona Island, Puerto Rico.

Epibiotic organisms inhabiting non-nesting hawksbill sea turtles, Eretmochelys imbricata (Linnaeus, 1766), are described from Mona and Monito Islands, Puerto Rico. Epibiont samples from 105 turtles of shallow (< 40 m) water foraging habitats were collected and identified to the lowest possible taxon. This epibiotic assemblage consisting of at least 4 algal functional groups and 12 animal phyla ...

Casualties in the Persian Gulf

I read with much interest the article on the above subject by Captains Barber and Doyle in the March number of the Gazette. I was particularly interested in their remarks regarding the value of the first field dressing and the occurrence of tetanus in Arab and Turkish wounded prisoners. It may perhaps not be without interest to relate my small personal experience in regard to the above in anoth...

Hawksbill sea turtles: can phylogenetics inform harvesting?

In their recent articles, Mortimer et al. (2007) and Bowen et al. (2007) imply that historical declines in hawksbill sea turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) populations in the Caribbean together with new phylogenetic data provide solid evidence that hawksbills cannot be harvested on a sustainable level. We suggest that broad inferences on the impacts of harvesting based on phylogenetic data alone a...
